Steven Gerrard believes that Rangers’ January transfer business is over after their 3-1 Scottish Cup win against Cowdenbeath.
The former Liverpool captain landed Jermain Defoe from Bournemouth and Steven Davis from Southampton earlier in the window as well as signing goalkeeper Andy Firth from Bury. Gerrard also completed a deal for American midfielder Matt Polster from Chicago Fire on Wednesday. After the completion of the move, Gerrard believes his transfer business is over.
Still, Celtic hold a five-point lead in the Scottish Premiership and one more marquee signing could help Rangers bridge the gap in the coming weeks. A deadline day move could give the Gers the boost they need to catch their arch-rivals and prevent them from winning their tenth consecutive league crown.
The perfect target would be Heracles forward – Brandley Kuwas. Valued at £4.05m by Transfermarkt, the versatile maestro has been one of the most consistent performers in the Eredivisie in recent seasons. The Dutchman has once again been ever-present for his side during his 18 league appearances this season.
Kuwas has helped his team’s cause with six goals and five assists so far highlighting what he could add to the Rangers attack. His creative ability would help Alfredo Morelos and Defoe score even more – he would also allow Gerrard to rotate Ryan Kent to keep the youngster fit. The Curacao international possesses the pace and dribbling skills to be a nightmare for Scottish defences.
With his contract set to expire in the summer, Rangers should grab themselves a deadline day bargain.
